SERVICE DETAILS : Connecting to the V-Server

To link to your programs and data on the V-Server you will need a broadband Internet connection.

Internet Speed

Minimum speed requirement is 3Mbps download and 0.4Mbps upload.

To ensure the best possible security we recommend locking down access to your V-Server from your specific Internet connection. This is done by using a static IP address on your Internet conection.

Static IP Address

A static IP address is used to improve security. Most business broadband ADSL internet connections include a static IP address as standard. To find out what your IP address is simply visit: www.whatismyipaddress.com and record the IP address provided on the screen.

To find out if this will change or not (therefore a static IP), unplug your modem, wait a couple of minutes, plug it back in and then go to the same website. If you get the same IP address you have a static IP, if it changes then you will just need to ask your ISP to provide a static one so that it does not change and we can ensure reliable secure access to your V-Server.

Backup 3G WiFi Internet Connection

In the event that your fixed line ADSL service fails you can access the V-Server via a 3G connection while repairs are carried out. We can recommend Telstra’s Elite Pre-Paid USB Pack at $79

VPN Connection

To improve certain functionality (usually related to printing and file sharing) you may require us to setup a Virtual Private Network between your office and the V-Server.

This is typically done using a VPN Modem/Router which Bluewave can recommend.

Audit and Advice

Prior to migrating your programs and data to the V-Server we complete an Audit of your current setup and your requirements. Based on the Audit we can provide advice as to the most appropriate connection method.
