CLOUD COMPUTING : What are Virtual Servers?

A virtual server is simply a physical server system located in a data-centre that businesses access via the Internet.

Rather than buying and maintaining their own physical server businesses pay a monthly subscription (the same way they do for Internet or mobile phone access) for each person in their organisation who uses the virtual server.

This monthly subscription covers the server’s maintenance, upgrades and replacement as and when needed and is all done behind the scenes for you after hours. Helpdesk support is provided to ensure the server’s functionality and is also included in the monthly subscription.

Virtual servers are made possible by significant advancements in Information Technology hardware and software, Data Centres and Internet services over the last 5 years.
